We have a deep commitment to safety, quality and compliance. We are dedicated to making products that have a positive impact on human health and have minimal impact on our planet.
For over 200 years, safety has been at the core of everything we do - and that starts with the products we make. Our products are used daily by millions of people around the globe in more than 200 countries and territories. Before any of them are available for purchase, they are each held to rigorous scientific evaluations to ensure that they meet our stringent internal safety standards as well as all applicable government regulations.
We hold ourselves to the highest safety standards
The safety of our consumers and our people has always been our first and greatest concern. That’s why we have a team of scientists around the world who conduct rigorous safety evaluations on all of our products before we bring them to the marketplace. We ensure our products comply with, and often exceed, all applicable regulatory requirements wherever we do business. We work with regulatory agencies worldwide including the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Canada to ensure our products meet the highest standards of safety - for both people and the environment.
Our Process to Evaluate New Ingredients
Before we use a new ingredient, we first complete a thorough safety assessment of the ingredient for both its intended and foreseeable misuse. If the ingredient is found to be unsafe, we won’t use it.
If the ingredient is determined safe, we move forward with developing a product using the new ingredient and evaluate the product’s efficacy and potential adverse effects of its usage. If the resulting product doesn’t meet our standards, we go back to the drawing board.
In the third stage, we ensure that proper warnings and use instructions are communicated on the label of the product.
It’s our responsibility to continue to ensure the safety of our products long after they are available for purchase. Our pharmacovigilance team - made up of physicians, pharmacists and nurses - gathers information on adverse effects and quality complaints from healthcare professionals and via consumer phone calls, social media, mail, clinical trials, market research and literature. After collecting and documenting that information, the team assesses and analyzes it to ensure that a product’s quality and safety is maintained throughout its lifecycle.
Our Commitment to Quality
Our promise is to deliver the highest quality products by assuring their performance, consistency, safety & value. We have rigorous quality processes and systems in place across our manufacturing sites and research and development centers to ensure that the products used throughout the world, every day are safe and effective. We analyze every product lot against Key Release Specifications to ensure the manufactured product is true to its design, free from microbial and foreign material contamination prior to being released to the market.
We ensure the people producing and analyzing our products have the required educational background to be effective in their roles. We provide continuous learning to enhance our knowledge as science and technology evolve.
We strive to continuously improve and enhance our manufacturing processes, testing equipment and methodologies to ensure the highest possible quality in our products. We track and trend consumer complaints to understand consumer experiences, identify opportunities to make our products even better.
Our Commitment to Environmental Safety
We’re committed not only to making safe products, but also to making those products with ingredients and processes that have minimal impact on the world around us. Our scientists strive to develop products that are environmentally sensitive and efficient, while also ensuring that they meet our high product standards. We are proud to partner with global and national environmental science programs, including the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) to help safeguard the planet.
